Please could you inform me a) how many pupils are at pupil referral
units in Manchester local authority, b) the number of teaching
staff, c) the average number of contact hours an excluded pupil at
a PRU would have with a member of teaching staff a week, and d) the
annual budget for PRUs.

Thank you for your request for information, which was received by
Manchester City Council on 28 April 2008 and has been considered under the
provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
In response to your request, I have summarised the information as follows.
a) how many pupils are at pupil referral units in Manchester local
authority? 177
b) the number of teaching staff? 18
c) the average number of contact hours an excluded pupil at a PRU would
have with a member of teaching staff a week?
Average contact hours pupil/teaching staff: 18
NB: pupil/staff contact hours (including non-teaching staff): 24
d) the annual budget for PRUs? **2.2 m
