Public Safety consequential to Control Room Rota changes
A Freedom of Information request to Merseyside Police by Sun Day
The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,
In September 1999, Merseyside Police adopted a particular 2x2x2
rota system which was taught in a Merseyside Police resource
management course. Do Merseyside controllers still work to this
rota system and if not, why not? This question is asked in
consideration of potential public safety issues when staff anywhere
work anti-social hours.
Yours faithfully,
S Day

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am grateful for all the information provided. My request was made
in order to try to assist Hampshire controllers, who are distressed
by changes to their existing 2x12 hour days/2x12 hour nights/4 days
off rota to 6x10 hours days or nights/4 days off [the variables
already being altered before the new rota comes into being].
Yours sincerely,
S Day

Thank you for your e-mail.
I do not believe that FOIA is the appropriate manner to gain the depth of
information that you are seeking. May I suggest that you take up Sgt
Mason's offer and contact the work scheduling unit directly. Whilst
Merseyside Police will not seek to influence the patterns of work of
staffing in other Force Areas, Sgt. Mason is very experienced in this area
and will be able to give you guidance and point you to relevant literature
that will assist you in providing assistance to th Hampshire Controllers.
In the first instance please use the e-mail contact point provided in FOIA
response.
Yours faithfully
