Dear Mr Hutchinson
Thank you for your request for information.
Dorset County Council manages on-street car parking in West Dorset, North
Dorset, East Dorset and Purbeck.
The respective councils of Weymouth and Portland and Christchurch are
responsible for managing their own car parking areas.
District and borough councils manage most off-street car parks, so we do
not hold information on whether they are bounded by 2 or more sides by open
sea, or if they are liable to flooding at high tide, or during conditions
of storm. This would also be the case for car parks under private
ownership.
I'm attaching a link to the Dorset for you website that lists car parks in
Dorset that are managed by district and borough councils.
Many have maps attached, which should help you with your request.
http://www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?ar...
It may be possible to obtain more information if you approached the
district and borough councils direct, although they may well point you to
their website pages. If you have not already approached them, and you would
like me to forward your request to the other councils in Dorset, please let
me know.
I hope this information is useful to you, and completes your request for
information. If you are not completely satisfied with my response, please
contact me again, or write to the complaints officer at: Dorset County
Council, County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1XJ. Or you
can follow the complaints procedure that can be found on our website
www.dorsetforyou.com at http://212.104.140.176/index.jsp?article...
If your appeal is not resolved to your satisfaction, you have the right to
apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Hutchinson
Thank you for your enquiry which has been passed on to me from Dorset
County Council and I can respond as follows.
North Dorset District Council is a land locked area of Dorset, therefore
no car park is bounded by 2 or more sides by open sea and therefore not
liable to flooding at high tide, or during conditions of storm.
However, the Marsh and Ham Car Park in Blandford Forum is adjacent to the
River Stour and is liable to flooding following heavy rainfall.
If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact
me.

Dear Mr Hutchinson
I have passed on your freedom of information request to the relevant staff and have been provided with the following information.
This link provides access to a list of public car parks in West Dorset:
http://www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?ar...
As far as we are aware, there are no car parks within the district that are surrounded on 2 or more sides by the open sea. The only car parks susceptible to coastal flooding, as indicated by the EA Flood zone maps, are those at West Bay. Flooding of these car parks would possibly be in conjunction with high river flows and not therefore, directly from the sea.
Virtually all car parks across the district are subject to surface water flooding from extreme rainfall events and some are susceptible to ground movements.
This would appear to conclude your enquiry satisfactorily. If you have any concerns in respect of our response to your information request, please contact me again.
If you are not satisfied with the response, you may write to the Legal Services Manager at West Dorset District Council, Stratton House, 58-60 High West Street, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1UZ or complete the on-line complaint form that can be found at www.dorsetforyou.com. If after this you are still not satisfied, you may write to the Chief Executive at the above address. If your complaint is not resolved to your complete satisfaction, you have the right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Yours sincerely

Dear Mr. Hutchinson,
I have been forwarded a copy of your request for information sent to
Dorset County Council. In your request you asked for 'details of how many
public car parks under public or private ownership there are in the area
covered by the Council that are bounded on two or more sides by open sea
and liable to flooding at high tide or during conditions of storm'.
East Dorset District Council is an inland District Council with no coastal
boundaries. There are therefore no car parks that are bounded on two or
more sides by open sea.
If you have any complaints in respect of your information request, please
write to the Chief Executive at the address below or complete the on-line
complaint form that can be found at [1]www.dorsetforyou.com. If your
complaint is not resolved to your complete satisfaction, you have the
right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision.

Subject: RE: Freedom of Information request - PUBLIC CAR PARKING
Dear Mr Hutchinson
I refer to your exchange of correspondence with Dorset County Council.
I can confirm Purbeck District Council does not own or manage any public
car parks within its administrative area that are bounded on two or more
sides by open sea (and are liable to flooding). I would however point out
that there are a number of public car parks within the purbeck area that
are located close to the coast and it may be that some are bounded on two
or more sides by the open sea. I'm afraid the District Council does not
have sufficient information to be able to answer your enquiry in relation
to these car parks as they are not our responsibility.
Your sincerely
