Date: 9 January 2009
Dear Sam Urquhart
Your application for information that was received by the Council on 19
December 2008 has now been considered and this letter is a full response
to that application.
Your request was to be supplied with information on the subject of
Plymouth City Council's response to the Sustainable Communities Act 2007.
The Council does hold the information that you have requested, as follows.
At this stage, Plymouth City Council has not considered any proposals to
the Department for Communities and Local Government under the clauses of
the Act and within the current deadlines for submission. Similarly, no
proposals have been forthcoming from our local communities.
Both the Council and the Local Strategic Partnership, Plymouth 2020, were
actively involved in the consultation regarding the Act and its subsequent
clauses. The Council recognises its potential for local and national
change and is actively working to embed a newly adopted Sustainable
Development Framework that makes clear links between the two.
It is anticipated that proposals could emerge from subsequent engagement
with Plymouth's communities. These will be carefully considered in
readiness for submission should the Government decide to proceed beyond
the current round; although we are given to believe that the current
process could take over a year to resolve and that further rounds may not
be forthcoming (LGIU SCA 2007 event, London, Dec 2008).
If you would like any further background information please do not
hesitate to contact our Sustainable Development Co-ordinator, Ms Jackie
Young, on 01752 304220 or [email address] "
