Dear Sir or Madam
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I request the following
information regarding the Ministry of Justice knowledge and
involvement in The National Archives proposal to phase out The
Office of Public Sector Information and the OPSI brand, the impact
that the proposed actions will have on the UK’s policy and
implementation with respect to the re-use of public sector
information (Statutory Instrument 2005 No. 1515 – the UK
transposition of the EU Directive 2003/98/EC).
The information requested to cover the period from the 1 July 2009
up to the time this request is answered.
Specifically, I need in relation to the phasing out of the OPSI
brand and The Office of Public Sector Information the following
information:
1. A list of written documents (including emails) received by the
Ministry of Justice – the list to include date, origin of the
document, position of the submitter (that is Job Title), to whom
the document was addressed, the subject line of the document.
2. A list of written documents (including emails) sent by the
Ministry of Justice to the National Archives – the list to include
date, position of the author, the position of the person(s) to whom
the document was addressed in The National Archives, the subject
line of the document.
3. A list of meetings held between one or more of the Directors of
The National Archives and the Ministry of Justice (including
Ministers of State). List to include date and position of the
people involved in the meeting.
4. A list of planned (schedule meetings) between one or more of the
Directors of The National Archives and the Ministry of Justice that
will have on the agenda the OPSI brand, the Office of Public Sector
Information, the public consultation on phasing out the OPSI, the
impact analysis, the estimate cost of implementing the closure
(phase out).
I would prefer to receive the information electronically.
If the decision is made to withhold some of this information using
exemptions in the Act, I would be grateful of you would please
inform me and cite the exemptions used.
If you need any clarification then please contact me via email.
Under your section 16 duty to provide advice and assistance I would
expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in
any way.

With respect to the reuse of public sector information the Public Task of a public body is often an issue. In response the Government has indicated that Consultation will be undertaken when the public task of a public sector body is to be amended or altered.
