Dear Sir or Madam,
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
I'm requesting information about the the use of the UK Border
Agency's Iris Recognition Immigration System (IRIS) equipment:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/managi...
Could you please supply me with the following information:
- The total number of people enrolled in the IRIS scheme to date.
- The number of people attempting to enrol in the IRIS scheme per
calendar month for each month of operation since January 2006.
- The number of people eligible to enrol in the scheme who applied
to use it, but were unable to enrol, per calendar month for each
month of operation since January 2006.
- The number of occasions when an individual attempting to enter
the country using an IRIS machine instead had to leave the machine
by the air-side (entry) door, per calendar month for each month of
operation, since January 2006.
- The number of occasions when an individual successfully entered
the country using IRIS equipment per calendar month for each month
of operation since January 2006.
Please note that I am seeking information about the number of IRIS
users, but not any information whatsoever about individual IRIS
users.
Please include copies of material which you hold in the form of
paper and electronic records including email.
If I can help to clarify this request please telephone me on
[mobile number redacted]. I look forward to hearing from you
promptly, as required by the legislation, and in any case within 20
working days.
Yours Faithfully,
Andrew Watson

This data is also inconsistent with the graphs in the "Project IRIS Pilot Review Report", also obtained under FOI.
I shall investigate further why the barriers are now reported as performing so much better in 2006 than when I obtained data about them in 2007.
