Professor David Nutt

M Bimmler made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office

The request was refused by Home Office.

From: M Bimmler

30 October 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to request access to the following records:

1) A recent letter by the Home Secretary to Professor David Nutt
which I believe to contain the sentence "I cannot have public
confusion between scientific advice and policy and have therefore
lost confidence in your ability to advise me as Chair of the
ACMD.". I would like to request a copy of the full letter.

2) The response letter by Prof Nutt to the letter mentioned above

3) All internal drafts of this letter and all memoranda, notes,
e-mails and other documents which were produced in connection with
the preparation of this letter.

4) Any internal advice which suggested that the Home Secretary
should ask Prof Nutt to resign.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Bimmler

Thanks Philip. I'm interested to see whether I'll get anything from 3 and 4...after all, the decision has been made, so disclosure should not really impede the formulation of government policy etc. anymore.

They could have redacted the names of the civil servants. The excuses they have used could be used to stop any FOI request which makes a mockery of the act.

The outcome of your request is a sure sign that they have embarrassing information to hide.
