Procedure for dealing with prisoners money

Christopher Stacey LL.B, LL.M made this Freedom of Information request to HM Prison Service

The request was successful.

From: Christopher Stacey LL.B, LL.M

28 November 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to make a request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

Please could you inform me of:

a) How prisoners money is held whilst they are in prison
b) Where prisoners money is held (i.e. in what type of account)
c) Whether any interest is obtained on the account in which such
cash is held
d) How much money, in total, is held by the Prison Service on
behalf of serving prisoners

If you are unable to provide answers to the above because the
procedures for such processes are different in each individual
prison, I would appreciate if such an answer could relate
specifically to HMP Coldingley.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Stacey LL.B, LL.M
