Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to make a request under the Freedom of Information
Act.

Please could you provide me with the following information:-

1) How much HM Prison Service pays for meals provided to prisoners
in a 24 hour cycle?

2) Do prisoners earn a wage whilst in prison?

3) If prisoners earn a wage, how is this done?

4) Are prisoners eligible to have items in their cell (i.e. T.V,
pets, books, etc)?

5) What activities do prisoners undertake whilst in prison?

6) How many prisoners serve their full sentences? How many have
their sentences extended for offending whilst in prison? How many
prisoners are released at the end of their full sentence?

Yours faithfully,

N.Smith

Hi was reading this interesting article about remand Inmates. I work in prison and wanted to check these laws. At my prison the inmates are told that even if they are on remand they have to work if they have signed the pack document when arriving at the prison. the pack states that they are willing to work and will be punished if they refuse. The problem with the pack is that when they first come into prison they are confused and some times bullied into signing the pack. The pack is not explained properly and they dont understand that work means education. This causes problems in class as they refuse to learn. Do all prison abide by the same laws. Do all prison have variations within the pack. If they sign this pack are they punishable even if they are on remand. Please help Tina
