Freedom of Information Request 1037

John Douglas

Dear Mr Douglas

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST:

Prescription Costs

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received on 7 May 2010
regarding the above.

You asked how much a prescription costs the NHS to buy i.e. not the person
who pays for the prescription would pay, for the following medicines,
Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate 30/500mg (Solpadol Effervescent tablets) box
of 100 tablets and Voltarol dispersible tablets (diclofenac) box of 20
tablets.

The NHS cost price for 100 Solpadol 30/500mg effervescent tablets is
£8.09 and for 21 Voltarol dispersible 50mg tablets it is £6.19.

Please note that these prices are NHS cost prices and are not the costs
that a patient would have to pay if they were to receive these products on
a private prescription.

I trust you will find this information useful.

However, if you are dissatisfied with the way NHS Fife has dealt with this
request, you have 40 days in which to register a "requirement for review".

The complaint should be addressed to the NHS Fife Chief Executive in the
first instance, who will refer the matter to the Director of Corporate
Services. The complaint will be acknowledged immediately and a more
comprehensive reply will be sent within 20 days.

The NHS Fife Chief Executive will receive a report from the Director of
Corporate Services within the designated timescale and will decide whether
the requested information should now be disclosed or not.

If applicants are dissatisfied with the outcome of the Review Procedure,
they may seek an independent review from the Scottish Information
Commissioner.

Requests for review by the Scottish Information Commissioner should be
made in writing to:
