Dear Sir or Madam,
im wrighting to you for information on the proposed building on the
east of atherton site,which is mentioned in the borough life
magazine issue 26 summer 2009.i have great concerns has my house
backs on to the proposed road.which would in turn spoil what veiw
we have of open feilds let alone the noise of passing traffic.i
live on douglas park and i feel this could seriously de-value my
propety.i have a lot more concerns about what is in planning for
this site,but if some one could let me now what stage we are at the

Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council

Dear Mr McGowan,
Thank you for your email with regard to the Council's proposal for
development on land at East of Atherton as detailed in the Borough for
Life leaflet. We will treat your email as an objection.
We are currently preparing our Core Strategy which will set out Wigan
Council's strategy for future development in the Borough - i.e. where it
will go and when. Last year we consulted on our 'Issues and Options'
stage (February-April 2008). We received a lot of feedback from the
public/stakeholders which was very helpful and informed the preparation
of our Core Strategy Preferred Options document (of which the Borough
Life leaflet is a summary). As stated on the leaflet, we are currently
at the 'Preferred Options' stage. The Core Strategy Preferred Options is
currently out for public consultation until the 4th August. All
comments received at this stage will be considered in the preparation of
our Publication Draft. Next year we will publish our draft Core
Strategy before submitting it to the Government. It will then be
considered by an independent inspector at an 'examination in public' who
will make recommendations. This will then become Wigan's Core Strategy.
In summary, the Core Strategy preferred option proposes:
- Housing to the north of the East of Atherton site in close proximity
to Atherton Station;
- Employment to the south as an extension to Chanters Industrial Estate;
- Open space, including play space and allotments;
- A new road from Bolton Road to Tyldesley Road, with a link to the
north of Shakerley. It is felt that the proposed new road
infrastructure would siginficantly reduce traffic congestion from
Atherton town centre.
As stated above, we will treat your email as an objection. Thank you
for your comments.
Thanks
