I am now able to reply to your FoI request below.
There are currently no plans in place for the reduction of biodegradable waste into landfill, with the exception of paper and cardboard collected from commercial premises - new service commencing Sept 09.
The Council was to implement a weekly collection food waste this year, but due to our Partner (Babergh District Council) using their 'veto' for implementing the service under our joint contract arrangement, this will not now take place.
The Council does operate a chargeable garden waste collection service, which has 5200 subscribers. The garden waste collected is taken for composting, thus diverting this waste from landfill.
I think I have now answered your request in full but please contact me again if I can be of any further help.
Regards
Val Coe
