Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to make a request in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act (FOI).
During the period 01 January 2007 to 01 January 2009:
1. How many Pet Shop Licences were issued?
2. How many Dangerous wild animals licences were issued?
3. How many Dog breeding licences were issued?
4. How often are inspections carried out in relation to these
licences?
5. Have any pet shops been investigated due to complaints, and poor
Animal Welfare Conditions? If so, what was the outcome?

Dear Mr Casey,
Request for Information
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
I write with reference to your request for information received by the
Comhairle on 03 August 2009, I note the terms of your request to receive
the following information (please find responses in bold):
During the period 01 January 2007 to 01 January 2009:
1. How many Pet Shop Licences were issued? 4 (2 premises licensed
annually)
2. How many Dangerous wild animals licences were issued? Nil
3. How many Dog breeding licences were issued? Nil
4. How often are inspections carried out in relation to these licences?
Annually
5. Have any pet shops been investigated due to complaints, and poor Animal
Welfare Conditions? If so, what was the outcome?
Yes. The complaints were investigated and where they were justified,
action was taken in accordance with the Comhairle's enforcement policy to
ensure compliance with the premises licence.
I trust this information is sufficient for your needs. If you are
dissatisfied with this response you can request the Comhairle to review
this response to your request for information. You have 40 days, from the
date of receipt of this response, in which to lodge this requirement for
review. A request for review must be in writing, describe your original
request and explain why are dissatisfied. An application for review
should be sent to the Chief Executive, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Council
Offices, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2BW ([1][email address]).
A request for review lodged with the Chief Executive will be processed
promptly and in any event within 20 working days of receipt.
Should you still remain dissatisfied after completion of the review
process you may apply to the Scottish Information Commissioner, 10 Kinburn
Castle, Doubledykes Road, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9BS, to establish
whether your request for information has been processed in accordance with
Part 1 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
