Personal Education Records
A Freedom of Information request to Salford City Council by Peter Burke
Salford City Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to ask how may I request my Personal Education
Records, High school and Primary School. I believe that obvious
learning difficulties were not recognised by Salford LEA. I have
been assessed as dyslexic since leaving school.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Burke

Dear Mr Burke,
Thank you for your request. I have explained the situation below, but please ring me on 0161 778 0147 if you need me to explain anything.
The information you require would be held by the schools and as they are separate data contollers to us, would need to be dealt with directly by them (they would hold this type of record rather than the Council).
I am happy to forward your request on to the schools if you can advise which schools they are. If you could also provide me with your date of birth I will check if the Council holds any information about you regarding any Special Educational Need (we would hold this type of information). You have a right of access to any information held about you via the Data Protection Act, known as a 'subject access request'. It wouldn't be dealt with via Freedom of Information as this personal information would be exempt under that Act. I have attached some guidance from the Information Commissioner on access to Pupil Records for further information.
I know schools generally destroy records after the pupil has reached 25, so there is a possibility that records might no longer be held, dependant upon your age. It is also unlikely that the primary school would still hold any information as they would generally transfer this to the secondary school who will then hold it all, but if you give me both school names I can send to both just in case. Alternatively, you can contact the schools in question directly.
If there is any information held, proof of your ID would be required before this is released in line with the Data Protect Act.
Please ring if you need any clarification on anything.
Regards,
Paula
