Dear Sir or Madam,
Please could you provide me with a list of all performance-related
pay schemes in the public sector bodies for which your department
is responsible, with, for each scheme, the following information:
a) the categories of staff (i.e. job titles) to which the scheme
applies
b) the approximate numbers of staff in each such category
c) the categories of staff (i.e. job titles) to which the scheme
does not apply
d) the approximate numbers of staff in each such category
By "performance-related pay scheme" I mean both schemes where an
element of remuneration during each year is related to performance,
and schemes where the annual
increase in pay and/or benefits an individual receives in related
wholly or in part to their performance.
The Cabinet Office has kindly responded to a similar request in
response to the Civil Service, and advised that I contact HM
Treasury for all other public sector staff. HM Treasury, however,
advised that I contact each department, as they do not hold the
information centrally. You can view the correspondence relating to
these two requests at:

Thank you

Dear Susan
Ordnance Survey reference: 69797
In response to your email request to the Department for Communities and
Local Government (DCLG) dated 18 November 2008; forwarded to Ordnance
Survey on 2 December 2008 requesting: a list of all
performance-related pay schemes in the public sector bodies for which your
department is responsible.
We are pleased to provide you with the following information with regard
to your request related to the 2007-2008 payments.
There are 2 performance-related pay schemes currently managed within
Ordnance Survey, these are;
* the annual pay review known as 'Managing Your Contribution' (or MYC)
which incorporates three performance marks - Exceeded
expectations, Meets expectations, and Below expectation. Staff
qualifying for Exceeded and Meets receive a consolidated increase in
salary where their current salary is below the maximum stated for
their grade. Staff qualifying for Exceeded receive an addition
non-consolidated bonus payment. Staff Below expectation receive no
increase in their salary levels.
* the corporate bonus scheme.
MYC
a) The categories of staff (I.e. job titles) to which the
scheme applies and the approximate numbers of staff in each such
category are:
Senior Middle Technical/ Technician Support
Manager Manager Technical/ Business Business Service grades Total
(UG7) (SEO) Manager (HEO) Officer (EO) Provider (CA)
(CO)
76 188 290 687 102 38 1383
b) the categories of staff (I.e. job titles) to which this
scheme does not apply and the approximate numbers of staff in this
category are:
* Total staff below expectation therefore not applying to either scheme
= 5
Corporate bonus depends on the overall performance of the department as a
whole and is defined by Ordnance Surveys' achievement against targets
set by DCLG. All staff [except those indicated in b) above] qualify for
this bonus which is paid as a flat rate with no differentiation between
grades.
Please note that your enquiry has been processed to Freedom of Information
guidelines. To the extent that the public interest (section 17) applies,
we have determined that in all the circumstances of the case, the public
interest has been met with the full provision of all information in this
instance.
If you are unhappy with our response, you may raise an appeal to our
Appeals Officer at:
Customer Service Centre
Ordnance Survey
Romsey Road
SOUTHAMPTON
SO16 4GU
Please include the reference number above. The Appeals Officer will ensure
that the process has been followed correctly, questioning any decisions
taken regarding the original response and recommending disclosure of
additional information if appropriate.
Thank you for your enquiry.
Yours sincerely
