Performance-related pay
Susan Davis made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Justice
The request was successful.
From: Susan Davis

Dear Sir or Madam,
Please could you provide me with a list of all performance-related
pay schemes in the public sector bodies for which your department
is responsible, with, for each scheme, the following information:
a) the categories of staff (i.e. job titles) to which the scheme
applies
b) the approximate numbers of staff in each such category
c) the categories of staff (i.e. job titles) to which the scheme
does not apply
d) the approximate numbers of staff in each such category
By "performance-related pay scheme" I mean both schemes where an
element of remuneration during each year is related to performance,
and schemes where the annual
increase in pay and/or benefits an individual receives in related
wholly or in part to their performance.
The Cabinet Office has kindly responded to a similar request in
response to the Civil Service, and advised that I contact HM
Treasury for all other public sector staff. HM Treasury, however,
advised that I contact each department, as they do not hold the
information centrally. You can view the correspondence relating to
these two requests at:

Dear Ms Davis
Please see the attached response to your request for an internal review.
<<57457 - IR Response - Ms S Davis.doc>>
I have copied the text below in case you have any difficulty in opening
the attachment.
Dear Ms Davis
Subject: Internal review - Performance related pay
I am writing in response to your request for an internal review into the
delay in handling your information request and to assure you that it is
being dealt with as a priority.
By way of an explanation, the delay has been caused by an unusually high
volume of requests for information and some legacy process issues. I am
pleased to say that we have made a number of administrative changes which
I hope will improve our service. In addition, replies to outstanding
requests are now being progressed by a larger team and we hope to respond
to all of these no later than 31 March 2009. The Information Commissioner
is aware of the difficulties the unit has faced and is monitoring the
changes we are implementing to improve the position.
I hope this explains why there has been an unacceptable delay in handling
your request and gives some assurance that we are doing our best to
improve our performance.
I would again like to apologise for the delay and to assure you that we
are making every effort to manage all requests and reviews in a fair and
sensible manner.
It is anticipated that we will be able to provide a full response to your
request for information by 25 February 2009.
Yours sincerely
