Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to know Pembrokeshire County Council's current policy
on vehicles parking in an inconsiderate manner on pavements and
what is a person to do if he sees such an act. This is very common
in the area in which I live. Not only is it dangerous when there is
no room left on the pavement for pedestrians, buggies and
wheelchair users but pavements are not designed for vehicle parking
and the damage done to the pavements must add to the council's
expenditure let alone the incalculable cost of pavement users being
injured on the road when they are unable to use the pavement.
Yours faithfully,
Flopsy Designs

Dear Neil Bennett,
Thank you for your reply, I have redirected my request to Dyfed
Powys Police but apart from acknowledgements have received no
response from them concerning this matter.
Your lack of interest in deterring this damaging (to pavements) and
dangerous (to pedestrians and other road users) habit is a great
cause for concern. You say that it is up to the police to enforce
waiting restrictions and obstruction but with Dyfed Powys police
spread so thinly they cannot always deal with these matters
promptly and they are clearly not a deterrent as pavement parking
is increasing at an alarming rate.
Are you not concerned with the cost both financially to yourselves
due to pavement damage and in potential injuries and loss of life
(especially to children, the elderly and infirm who are more prone)
due to pavement users having to use the road. The police can only
enforce but the council has the power to deter and make pavement
parking an unacceptable habit, if pedestrians started sitting in
the road there would soon be an uproar!
What measures if any are the council taking to prevent pavement
parking getting out of hand.
Yours sincerely,
Flopsy Designs

Pembrokeshire County Council have outlined how they are able to discourage pavement parking and although there is no sense of urgency from them about the matter this is a step in the right direction IF they are implementing what they state in their reply.
