C O'Connell made this Freedom of Information request to Cambridge City Council

The request was successful.

From: C O'Connell

27 January 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to have a breakdown of figures from parking fines
issued according to area (number of tickets issued in each area),
overall revenue generated and a brief summary of how this revenue
is spent.

Yours faithfully,

Mr C O'Connell

Dear Mr O’Connell

Thank you for your Freedom of Information Request.

In your request you do not state the to and from date period that you
would like the information to represent. I have therefore included our
most recent annual report, which I hope you will find of use. Of course
if you require any further information or would like to redefine your
request then I will aim to provide all the additional information you
require.

In your request I am slightly unclear with what you require for
‘parking fines issued according to area’. Our enforcement
currently is restricted within the Cambridge City boundary. At this time
Cambridge City Council do not issue Penalty Charge Notices (Parking
Tickets) in any of the other districts that make up Cambridgeshire.

I have attached our most recent annual report presented to our City
Councillors. This provides quite a lot of detailed information including
the aspects I understand your request is aimed at:

1. From the period 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2008 42,495 Penalty
Charge Notices were issued. (Table 4)
2. At list of the top 20 streets within Cambridge where Penalty
Charge Notices have been issued within. (Table 4)
3. £1,184,037 was the total income from paid Penalty Charge Notices
between 1st April 2007 - 31st March 2008 (Appendix A - Financial
Position of Lape Account (2007-2008))
4. £71,500 was used from the surpluses in 2007-2008 to finance a
variety of schemes. These included the purchase of new car park
equipment, the provision of green parking bays and charging units, start
up costs for the introduction of a Car Club (Streetcar) scheme and money
directed to the ‘Dial-a-ride bus’ service which provides transport
for elderly and disabled residents.

A full list of the schemes that have received part of
the surplus are shown in Table 7. This also includes the proposed
schemes to received surplus money in 2008/2009.

A complete record of the reports that have been published can be found
on our website at the following link:

May I take this opportunity to stress that we are extremely open about
the service we provide and have developed our website with is in mind.
Our website includes enforcement manuals and all our annual reports that
have been presented to our City Councillors.

I do hope that the information I have provided meets your requirements.
If not please be aware that I will aim to provide any subsequent
information you require without the need for you to make a Freedom of
Information request. I can be contacted directly on (01223) 458520 or
via email at [email address]

Please feel free to pass my direct contact details on to anyone who
wishes to learn more about our Parking Enforcement operation in
Cambridge.

Kind Regards

Mr Chris Casboult

Dear Christopher Casboult,

My reference to 'by area' was possibly the incorrect word. I am
referring to the areas within Cambridge such as Kite, Petersfield,
Romsey etc.
If such a tally exists of total numbers of fines issued for this
sort of thing I would very much be interested to see them to see
where the worst offenders (or perhaps the most pro-active parking
enforcement officers) are.

As for the rest of the information you have provided; Thank you
very much. I had looked on your website for the total revenue
generated etc but obviously I missed a link somewhere

Yours sincerely,

C O'Connell

Dear Christopher Casboult,

Sorry, further to my last communication:
I have just found the page in your literature that lists the 20
worst streets.
This is more detail than I was expecting, however has satisfied my
request as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

Yours sincerely,

C O'Connell
