Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000, I am outlining my query as specifically as
possible.
1. For the last year the total amount spend on outside legal
advice?
2. The name and address of those provided the advice and how much
was paid to them and to which departments they were provided advice
to?
I would be interested in any information held by your organisation
regarding my request. I understand that I do not have to specify
particular files or documents and that it is the department
responsibility to provide the information I require.
I would like to receive the information in hard copy format
If my letter is denied in whole or in part, I ask that you justify
all deletions by reference to specific exemptions of the act. I
will also expect you to release all non exempt material. I, of
course, reserve the right to appeal your decision to withhold any
information or to charge excessive fees.
I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have
received this request. I look forward to your response within 20
working days, as outlined by the statute.

Winchester City Council
31 December 2009
I refer to your freedom of information request on the above matter.
For 2008/09, the total expenditure on outside legal advice was £147,858.
The attached spreadsheet shows the details of this as requested in the second point of your email.
Although your email specified a hard copy reply, you did not include a postal address, so I assume this soft reply is acceptable.
