Dear Sir or Madam,
please make it possible for schools to grow there own organic veg
and rear their own livestock like chickens and pigs, helping them
eat healthier and helping them to understand were good food comes,
starting from nursery
some schools are already doing so

over the country especially deprived areas
Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Holmes
Thank you for your email of 18 November to the Department for Children,
Schools and Families(DCSF), about giving schools the opportunity to
participate in gardening and farming.
Like you, we agree that projects such as this would give children valuable
opportunities to learn about food production. Learning outside the
classroom is widely recognised as an important part of personalised
learning, and the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto, launched in
November 2006, states that every young person should experience the world
beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal
development.
An element of the Manifesto is the Growing Schools programme, which aims
to harness the full potential of the outdoor classroom as a teaching and
learning resource. Concerns that young people have become distanced from
nature has increased in recent years, with many not making the connection
between food they see in the supermarkets and the land that produces it.
Growing Schools is a Government funded programme tasked to address this
issue. It aims to encourage, support and inspire all schools (nursery,
primary, secondary and special) to use the oudoor classroom both within
and beyond the school grounds, as a context for learning across the
curriculum.
It focuses in particular on food, farming and the countryside, on ensuring
pupils are given first hand experience of the natural world around them
and that outdoor learning activities are integrated into every day
teaching practices.
The project is being managed by Learning through Landscapes (LTL), the
national school grounds charity, and Farming and Countryside Education
(FACE) on behalf of the DCSF.
