Dear Mr Herd,
Re: Freedom of Information Request
Thank you for your request for information received on the 17th November
2008.
In your request you asked for ‘the total number of OPG hours taken out of
front line ops in Royal Mail letters dating back to financial year
beginning April 2004. Also can you provide a breakdown of the same hours
for the PE postcode area and the Huntingdonshire cluster within the PE
postcode area’.
We can confirm Royal Mail holds this information and details are shown on
the attachment provided. This document details the reduction of OPG hours
from 2004 to 2008, broken down by Royal Mail Operations, Peterborough Mail
Centre, PE Postcode Delivery Units and delivery cluster Huntingdon. The
figures reflect Royal Mail’s commitment to reduce costs whilst continuing
to deliver the best possible service to every UK address including, of
course, every address in the Peterborough area. It is worth stressing that
the service specification for deliveries that we published in 2004-05 has
not changed since that date, including our aim that we deliver the mail in
urban areas, Monday to Saturday, by 2pm. In the first quarter of 2004-05,
the First Class quality of service performance for the Peterborough (PE)
postcode area was 85.0%. The most recent figures we published – for the
summer of 2008 – showed that First Class quality of service in the
Peterborough postcode area was 94.2%, above the national First Class target
of 93.0%.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request you do have a
right to request an internal review, in which case please write to the Head
of Information Compliance, Royal Mail House, Company Secretary's Office,
5th Floor, 148 Old Street, LONDON, EC1V 9HQ. An internal panel will then
review the request, and you will be advised of the outcome.
If, having requested an internal review by Royal Mail, you are still not
satisfied with our response you also have a right of appeal to the
Information Commissioner at:
