Dear S James,

Re Your Request for Information

I refer to your recent e-mail asking for the following :

Under the Freedom of information act please can you let me know (A) the
number of working days lost each year for the past 10 due to
"stress, anxiety and depression". (B) Please also include the total
working days which were available for your workforce for each year.

Also please can you let me know (C) how many employees for each were
retired on the grounds of ill-health each for the past 10 years.

Please separately state dismissals in this as well where ill health
was brought up as a factor.

Unfortunately we only hold the last three years sickness stats so the information I am sending is only able to cover this timescale.

A.

1. For the Financial Year April 2006 - 2007 the recorded figure was 365.14 days lost to Stress/Anxiety/Depression.

2. For the Financial Year April 2007 - 2008 the recorded figure was 318.2 days lost to Stress/Anxiety/Depression.

3. For the Financial Year April 2008 - 2009 the recorded figure was 317.16 days lost to Stress/Anxiety/Depression

B. I will be able to provide you with this information in the week commencing Monday 21st September. Accountancy are making this calculation for your request. We do not hold this information as many departments are in the process of merging with Adur district council. I will be intouch as soon as the information is provided.

C.

1. Of these three years there were 5 employees retired on the ground of ill health - none of which were due to stress/anxiety/depression.

2. There were no dissmissals due to Ill health.

If you are unhappy with the way that this request has been resolved, then you may ask for an internal review of this decision by writing to The Executive Head of Legal & Democratic Services (Jeremy Cook) at The Town Hall, Chapel Road, Worthing, BN11 1HA.

You may also make a complaint under Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act to the Information Commissioner, who can be contacted at Whycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. However please note that he would normally expect that any internal review procedures have been exhausted prior to contacting him.

This response is personal to you and no consent to publish it, for instance on a website, is given. Any application for consent to re-use information will be considered under the Re-Use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005, but if consent is given a charge may be made to you.

Yours Sincerely,

Pippa Walcott

Dear S James,

Futher to the information I provide last week regarding your request for information relating to loss of working days to stress, anxiety or depression.

I can confirm that the average total working days which were available for your workforce for each year are

2008/09 Number of Available Days = 91,549
2007/08 Number of Available Days = 117,958
2006/07 Number of Available Days = 116,077

The decline in the number of days from 2007/08 to 2008/09 is largely be a result of staff beingTUPed over to Adur.

Yours Sincerely,

Pippa Walcott
