FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST
Thank you for your email of 18 November in which you ask for information
on the number of people in the UK without a birth certificate. We are now
in a position to offer a full reply to your request.
I am pleased to be able to disclose the information that you have
requested where it is held in our records.
The number of people:
a) Born in the UK whose parents have failed to register them for a birth
certificate within 12 months of their birth.
The number of births registered more than 365 days after date of birth for
the year 1 April to 31 March 2008 is 66.
b) People born abroad currently residing in the UK without a birth
certificate.
After a thorough search, I regret to inform you that the Identity and
Passport Service does not hold the information that you have requested.
However if you are dissatisfied with this response you may request an
independent internal review of any aspect of our handling of your
application by submitting your complaint to the address below and quoting
the reference FOICR 10749:
