A Freedom of Information request to Thames Valley Police by Kaihsu Tai

Dear Sir or Madam,

REQUEST: To enable comparison with the Home Office homicide
time-series (see below), would you please provide the number of
fatal collisions dealt with by your Roads Policing department,
and/or the number of persons who died on the roads in your policing
area, for each of the years 2002/03 to 2006/07.

BACKGROUND: I noticed on your website, you stated that

‘[In] the past year (1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008) [...] The Roads
Policing department dealt with 107 fatal [...] collisions [...].’
About Thames Valley Police.
http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news_i...

‘Malcolm Collis, Safety Manager in Thames Valley Police Roads
Policing Department, said: “On average 150 people die on the roads
in Thames Valley every year. That’s 150 grieving families. Many of
the deaths could have been avoided if drivers had not been
speeding.”’ Road Safety Education Schemes.
http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/roads/...

I noticed on the Home Office’s website that

David Povey (Ed.), Kathryn Coleman, Peter Kaiza, Jacqueline Hoare
and Krista Jansson. Home Office Statistical Bulletin: Homicide,
Firearm Offences and Intimate Violence 2006/2007. 3rd edition.
(Supplementary Volume 2 to Crime in England and Wales 2006/07),
page 34: ‘Currently recorded homicides by region and police force
area: England and Wales, 2002/03 to 2006/07: Total number of
offences Police force area 2002/03 2003/04 2004/05 2005/06 2006/07
Thames Valley Police 23 20 25 21 20’
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs08/... (2008-01-31)

I would like to be able to compare with this time-series.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Dr Kaihsu Tai
