Dear Lynn Daley
Information request 101000355701
I refer to your request under the Freedom of Information Act seeking
information regarding home educated children.
The answers to your questions are given below.
1. Number of electively home educated children known to your LA in
academic year 2008-09.
There were 674 within the 2008/9 academic year.
2. Number of electively home educated children who have a protection plan
in place due to neglect or abuse.
There is no recording of this information by the Home Education Team and
the only way of identifying this would be to physically check the file of
every child with a Child Protection Plan. Unfortunately, it has been
estimated that the time it would take to comply with this part of the
request will exceed the fee limit* as set out in the Freedom of
Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations
2004. *The fee limit is £450 which equates to 18 hours of staff time. If
you require assistance in refining your request, bringing it within the
limit, please let me know.
3. Total number of all children in your LA.
Total number of children aged 0-17 which we are currently using for our
Performance Indicators = 145,423
4. Total number of children who have a protection plan in place due to
neglect or abuse.
Total number of children with a Child Protection Plan at 31 March 2009 =
303. This included all Child Protection Plans, as by definition these are
children subject to actual or risk of abuse.
I hope this information is of assistance to you.
Yours sincerely
