Dear Mr Yokovich-Brown

I write further to your email communication dated 21^st June 2010, in
which you asked for the following information:

1. "Number of job applications for lawyer/solicitor level roles made to
the councils legal department in the last 3 years"
The Council's legal department received a total of 28 applications
from July 2007 - June 2010 in response to a total of 5 recruitment
advertising campaigns for lawyers undertaken within this period.

You have also asked for the following additional information:

2. "Number of job applications for lawyer/solicitor level roles made
to the Councils legal department by Jewish/Somali/Sikh/Hindu/Tamil in the
last 3 years"

I can confirm that of the 28 applications received during this 3 year
period, 6 applications were received by individuals where they have
declared this information, from one or more of the religious faiths as
outlined at point 2, which are broken down as follows:

Jewish - 2
Somali - 0
Sikh - 3
Hindu - 1
Tamil - 0

3. "How many of the above applications by
Jewish/Somali/Sikh/Hindu/Tamil have been successful?"

None of those individuals who had declared themselves as being of Jewish,
Somali, Sikh, Hindu or Tamil faith were successful in their application
for lawyer/solicitor vacancies advertised by the Council during this
period.

4. "How many Jewish/Somali/Sikh/Hindu/Tamil currently work as
lawyers/solicitors for the Council and how many have worked as
Lawyer/Solicitors on a yearly basis over the last 3 years"?

We do not hold this information.

5. Has the Council ever looked at the above as an issue of concern
and at what level in the Councils corporate structure was it considered?
