Nepotism

Mr Watts made this Freedom of Information request to Design Council

The request was successful.

From: Mr Watts

21 August 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

I wish to know how many employees at every level in your
organisation were known to each other either as family, friends,
relatives before being engaged for employment.

What measures do you have as an organisation to ensure you are free
of nepotism. Who audits these measures if they exist.

Yours faithfully,

Mr R Watts

Sent request to Design Council again, using a new contact address.

Design Council

22 August 2008

Dear Mr Watts

Thank you for your second enquiry.

The Design Council maintains a register of any conflicts interest for senior staff on management or decision-making boards. A full listing of declared interests of Council Members (trustees) and executive directors can be found on our website at the following link http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/en/Desig... . Declarations for staff on management boards who are not executive directors are held at the Design Council. Since January 2008 all new starters to the organisation complete and sign a register of interest form which is kept on their HR file.

For 2008 I have one listed example of a member of staff who was known to another employee before appointment. This has been declared on their conflict of interest form.

Conflicts of interest are updated on an ongoing basis and all management meetings, including meetings of the Board of Trustees, commence with a formal , minuted declaration of any interests. In addition, all new starters have to go through a robust recruitment process.

With best wishes
Kim
