Dear Eren Tatari,

Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000
Reference No: 55964
Thank you for your recent request, received in March 2009. We are pleased
to enclose the following information.

1) Which council run cemeteries has a Muslim section, and/or accommodate
Islamic burials?
The Council does have the occasional Muslim burial in all of its
cemeteries. Specifically, Muslim Plots are in Grove Park Cemetery.

2) If any, when (WHICH YEAR) were the Muslim sections established, or
policies to accommodate Islamic burials implemented?

The first Muslim Plot was opened in 1982. Consultations with Islamic
groups have taken place over several years regarding the type of service
required, the way the grave should be prepared, shroud burials etc.

We hope you will find this information helpful.

Yours sincerely
Information Governance Team
