Dear Eren Tatari
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST
Thank you for your email of 18 June in which you requested information
regarding council run cemeteries and Islamic burials.
I apologise for the delay in providing you with a response which was
caused by an administrative oversight on our part. We are taking steps to
ensure that Freedom of Information requests received by the London Borough
of Hackney will in future be answered promptly and in any event within the
statutory deadline.
Your request has been considered and the information requested is below:
London Borough of Hackney is only responsible for Abney Park cemetery in
Stoke Newington which is managed in a similar way to a disused burial
ground or open space. The cemetery company closed more than 21 years ago.
Only a very small number of burials take place here as a courtesy to
people who once held family plots from the private cemetery company.
Therefore, there are no council run cemeteries with a Muslim section in
Hackney.
