Motorcycle Security Devices

Ben Tweedy made this Freedom of Information request to Westminster City Council

The request was partially successful.

From: Ben Tweedy

4 December 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please tell me how you are making motorcyclists aware that they can
suggest which types of security devices are to be installed in
Westminster motorcycle parking bays. If the answer is only that
they can make suggestions on your website, please tell me how you
are driving internet traffic from the motorcycling community to
your suggestions web page.

Please tell me what consultation was carried out on security
devices before you purchased 200 security devices. I am asking for
consultation SPECIFIC to the 200 devices purchased.

Please tell me what type of security devices have been purchased.
This question refers to the 200 devices that the council claim to
have purchased.

Please tell me the locations where these 200 devices are to be
installed.

Please tell me the cost of these 200 security devices.

Yours faithfully,

4

Dear Customer Relations,

Thank you for your detailed response, but I have a few more
questions with regards to this FOI request.

Can you please tell me who the supplier was of the BA10 ground
anchors?

Does the price for each anchor include installation costs?

Yours sincerely,

Ben Tweedy

Dear Mr Tweedy,

Thank you for your reply in relation to FOI 4697.

I can advise that the ground anchors were supplied by Metric Parking and The anchor price does not include any installation costs. Regrettably, I am unable to advise you as to what these costs are at this stage, as the security devices have yet to be installed.

Yours sincerely

Gordon Deas

Dear Gordon,

Thank you again for your speedy reply. Have you noticed on the
Metric Parking website, just below the picture of the ground anchor
it says "In order to complete your PTW secure parking package,
Metric provide pay and display machines for any of the anchor
options you may choose." It really made me laugh, for reasons i'm
sure you know all to well. Funny that a company that supplies
parking services knows to provide pay and display options yet WCC
still stick to the socially exclusive Pay by Phone.

One last question on this FOI...

1) I have seen the same ground anchors advertised online for a
considerably cheaper price than what WCC have paid. Are Metric
Parking offering any value added service that would warrant
spending more on a product that is available cheaper elsewhere?

Yours sincerely,

Ben Tweedy
