MoJ contract with Courtel

The request was partially successful.

Judith Townend

Dear Ministry of Justice,

I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query as specifically as possible. If however this request is too wide or too unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me, preferably electronically, before the twentieth day as I understand that under section 16 of the act, you are required to advise and assist FoI requesters.

I would like to know about Ministry of Justice's contract with Courtel. Courtel says that its Courtserve service is "an excellent example of private sector cooperation with government - in this case the Ministry of Justice - to the benefit of court users in England and Wales." (http://www.courtserve2.net/generic/about...)

I would like to know more about this arrangement:

*When did the government's contract with Courtel commence?
*Which government services does Courtel run, and when did each of the services come into existence (by year)?
*Court listings are categorised by court on Courtel's digital service Courtserve. How many are paid-for services?
*How much money was spent by the Ministry of Justice / HM Courts to set up the Courtserve service (between June 2010 and June 2011)?
*Where possible, please break down these costs out by function (for example, development, content, design, updates, changes, hosting, licensing etc)?

If possible, I would like to see Ministry of Justice communication regarding the government's decision to outsource its listings service to the private contractor Courtel and host court listings on an external site.

If one part of this request can be answered more quickly than others, please send that information first followed by the other data. As stated at the beginning of this request, if you need any explanation of this request please email me. If FoI requests of a similar nature have already been submitted, please could you include your responses to those requests.

I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request, and I look forward to hearing from you, preferably by email, within the 20-working day statutory time period.

Yours faithfully,

Judith Townend

Dear Ms Pabla

Thank you for your response. In regards to your request for clarification:

["I am currently unclear as to the exact scope of the information in which you are interested.
In order to help ensure that I provide you with the correct information, I would be grateful if
you could clarify whether the information you are seeking to obtain is in respect to listings
in the Crown Court, County Court or Royal Courts of Justice"]

I am interested in the listing arrangements for listings for all these courts: the Crown Courts, County Courts and Royal Courts of Justice. If, however, this is too big a request, please could you answer it in regards to the County Courts?

Yours sincerely,

Judith Townend

Dear Ms Pabla,

I am still waiting for a response to my FoI inquiry, originally made on 5 June 2011.
