Minutes of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Devolution Scotland, Wales and the Regions

The request was refused by Cabinet Office.

Dear Cabinet Office,

I would like to make a request under Freedom of Information to see all the minutes of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Devolution Scotland, Wales and the Regions (DSWR). The remit of this committee, under the Chairmanship of the then Lord Chancellor, Derry Irvine, was:

‘To consider policy and other issues arising from the Government’s policies for devolution to Scotland and Wales and the regions of England and to promote and oversee progress of the relevant legislation through Parliament and it subsequent implementation.’

In December 2010 the release of these minutes was vetoed by the then Secretary of State for Justice, Jack Straw, on the spurious grounds that it would undermine the principles of collective responsibility.

After the passage of thirteen years, and with the various protagonists no longer in government, Jack Straw's objection no longer stands. It is in the public interest to know what was said, what representations were made and what considerations were taken, especially now that a second round of devolution to Scotland and Wales is on the political agenda.

Yours faithfully,

Gareth Young

Dear Twats,

Your response disgusts me.

New politics my arse.

Same old secrecy and backroom deals more like.

Yours faithfully,

Gareth Young
