Dear Matt Townsend,
The Council's expenditure is funded from a number of sources. This includes central government funding, in the form of revenue support grant, redistributed non-domestic rates and grants provided for specific service purposes, as well as income derived from fees and charges, and council tax. These funding sources are not hypothecated for specific purposes, and together are used to fund the whole range of Council services. Any attempt to attribute proportions of funding against individual items of expenditure would be misleading. To provide an indication of the relevant significance of council tax, as part of the overall funding package, the amount estimated to be raised from that source in 2008/09 equates to some 17% of the total budget requirement.
If you have any queries or concerns or are in any way dissatisfied with the handling of your request please contact me.
