theft across the country. Please can you send me the approximate
cumulative number of reported thefts of metal such as; signposts
roadside cables for the following times for your area.

1)2007June-2008June 2)2006June -2007June 3) if possible 5 years ago

Also can you give me the number of arrests British Transport Police
have made for incidents relating to metal theft

Also can you inlcue a quote regarding the British Transport Polices
view of this issue, what they are doing and what the public should
do or be aware of.

British Transport Police (BTP) can supply the following information:

NB - The statistics below show the number of crimes recorded between 1
June 2006 and 31st May 2007 at 1174, but this is likely to be lower than
the actual figure as separate offence codes created for theft of cable
and metal were categorised specifically since October 2006. Prior to
this, these offences were counted in a miscellaneous category.

1 June 2006- 31 May 2007

1 June 2007- 31 May 2008
