Subject: Freedom of Information request - London Skills & Employment
Board - Richard Gooding CEO of London City Airport
The Mayor would like to thank you for your interest in his work and he is
keen to answer your query as fully as possible. As you will appreciate, he
has received a very large amount of correspondence from Londoners since
the election and it is proving quite challenging to respond as quickly as
we would like.
Please note that non Greater London Authority (GLA) related queries will
be referred to the appropriate functional body for them to reply e.g.
transport related queries will be referred to Transport for London (TfL).
However, the Mayor is committed to responding to all appropriate
correspondence and everything is being done to reply to your query as
quickly as possible.
This is an automated message and therefore does not require any response.

Dear A-M Griffin
Thank you for your correspondence received on 28 February 2009 making a request for the following information under the Freedom of Information Act
You asked for the following information:
1. Please provide the recruitment criteria which was used to recruit Richard Gooding, CEO of London City Airport and award him a chair on the London Skills & Employment Board in Autumn 2008.
All appointments to the LSEB were made on the basis of an open and competitive process. An advertisement was published in relevant newspapers and magazines during summer 2008. The advertisement requested applicants to send their CVs to the Greater London Authority (GLA). From all the CVs received GLA officers drew up a short-list and those that were considered to be best qualified for the job were interviewed. Mr Gooding was appointed following these procedures.
It was considered that because of his knowledge, skills and experience in the transport industry, and in working with local communities on skills and employment issues, he could make a valuable contribution to the London Skills and Employment Board.
As is standard GLA practice, an independent assessor reviewed the entire selection and appointment process.
2. Please provide the remuneration and expenses that are offered and given for this role.
The positions on the LSEB are not remunerated, although there is provision for limited expenses to be paid. Board members are entitled to claim a per day expenses allowance of ?208, with a maximum claim per person of ?2,496 per annum.
3. Please provide a list of the meetings which took place between Richard Gooding and the GLA, including any of their 'agents' regarding his recruitment to this role. Please include dates and locations and any gifts/hospitality.
Mr Gooding attended an interview at City Hall on 17 September 2008, regarding his application for membership of the LSEB. No other meetings were held with Richard Gooding or any agent of his, regarding his recruitment.
Yours sincerely
Suzanne O'Neill
