Location of Housing Estates

Mr I Agar made this Freedom of Information request to Greenwich Borough Council

The request was successful.

From: Mr I Agar

1 July 2010

Dear Greenwich Borough Council,

I am looking to obtain details on the location of council owned
housing estates in the London Borough of Greenwich. Ideally i would
prefer a map that shows clearly the defined area of each estate
which would probably be something held by a GIS team on ArcView or
MapInfo type products. I have searched the internet to try and find
this information, however, i have only managed to find maps showing
details of estates for Lambeth (a pdf detailing all estates
boroughwide) and Hackney (which are included in individual ward
profiles).

I would be very grateful if you could supply a map of this
information naming the estates.

I am requesting this information to aid with social and
geographical research on deprivation and the incidence of crime in
social/high density housing areas.

Yours faithfully,

Mr I Agar

Dear Alan Soskin,

A £10 fee for this information is ludicrous. I have submitted the
exact same request to about half the boroughs in London, many of
whom managed to respond on time, and even within a matter of days,
providing a simple pdf attachment of what is being requested. None
have requested payment, some boroughs have even gone above and
beyong to print this information into a bound folder and mail to
me. This is something the borough should already have available
somewhere, i know Greenwich used to have this online because i have
accessed this information in the past via the council website, the
only reason i am now making the request is because it is no longer
possible to obtain the info online. Does the council not have this
information held somewhere already within an existing document, as
i am unwilling to pay £10 for what is essentially a GIS user
opening a file on his computer. Also, please can you try and
respond to this in less than a month.

Yours sincerely,

Mr I Agar
