From: Trevor R Nunn
7 January 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
During the last five years how many times has the Local Government
Ombudsman (as a result of investigating a complaint against Brent
Borough Council) brought to the attention of the council the fact
that a member of Brent Borough Council staff had misled them, lied
to them or done anything else to hinder their investigation. If
they have what disciplinary action was taken against the
individual(s) concerned by the council.
Yours faithfully,
Trevor R Nunn

Brent Council - INFORMATION REQUEST

====================================================
Dear Mr. Nunn,
I am writing in response to your email of 7 January 2009 in which you asked
how many times in the last five years the Local Government Ombudsman has
brought to the Council's attention the fact that a member of Brent Council
staff had misled them, lied to them, or done anything to hinder their
investigation.
The simple answer to all three enquiries is none. Brent Council prides
itself on providing the highest quality, open and honest responses to
enquiries from the Local Government Ombudsman. The Ombudsman recognises this
and has commented positively on the way Brent deals with complaints
generally in his Annual Letters, which can be found on the Ombudsman's
website at www.lgo.org.uk
If you are dissatisfied with the response or how the Council has handled
your request you can complain to the Council by writing to the following
address: Corporate Information Manager at Brent Council, Room 105, Brent
Town Hall, Forty Lane, Wembley, Middlesex HA9 9HD, telephone 020 8937 1156,
e-mail [Brent Borough Council request email]. It is the Council's policy to ensure that, where
practicable, your complaint is dealt with by someone who was not involved in
the original decision.
You also have a right of appeal about our decision to the Information
Commissioner, however, the Information Commissioner will not normally
consider an appeal until you have exhausted your rights of redress and
complaint to the Council. The Information Commissioner can be contacted as
follows:
Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire SK9 5AF; Telephone: 01625 545 700,
www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk
As part of our commitment to improve our service to our customers we would
welcome any feedback on the way that we have dealt with your request.
Yours sincerely
Susan Riddle,
Corporate Complaints Manager
