The request was successful.

From: Trevor R Nunn

7 January 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

During the last five years how many times has the Local Government
Ombudsman (as a result of investigating a complaint against
Bassetlaw District Council) brought to the attention of the council
the fact that a member of Bassetlaw District Council staff had
misled them, lied to them or done anything else to hinder their
investigation. If they have what disciplinary action was taken
against the individual(s) concerned by the council.

Yours faithfully,

Trevor R Nunn

Dear Mr Nunn,

I refer to your request under the Freedom of Information Act dated 7th
January 2009, requesting information on the Local Government Ombudsman's
investigations.

a) The Council has a duty to confirm or deny that it holds recorded
information that an applicant seeks from it and a duty to supply the
information requested, subject to any exemption that may apply.

b) However, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000
the right of access is to the information and not the documents.

In response to your FOI enquiry, I would confirm that to our knowledge the
LGO have not needed to bring to the attention of the Council the fact that
a member of staff has either misled them, lied to them or hindered their
investigation at any time in the last five years.

I would add that the LGO Annual Report was presented to members
of Bassetlaw District Council's Performance Improvement Scrutiny Committee
on 31st August 2008, when it was reported that, "The Ombudsman enjoys a
good working relationship with the Council's Complaints Liaison Officer".

If you are dissatisfied with the Freedom of Information response set out
in this e-mail you are able to utilise the Council’s complaints
procedure by contacting Sarah Carter, Complaints & Consultation Officer,
Performance Unit, Community Engagement and Performance, Bassetlaw District
Council, Queens Buildings, Worksop, Notts, S80 2AH. E-Mail:
[1][email address] or telephone 01909 533473.

In addition, information to any right of appeal to the Information
Commissioner may be found at [2]www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk or by
writing to Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF (telephone 01625 545745), email [3][email address]

Thank you for your enquiry.

Best regards
