Dear Sir or Madam,

During the last five years how many times has the Local Government
Ombudsman (as a result of investigating a complaint against
Hastings Borough Council) brought to the attention of the council
the fact that a member of Hastings Borough Council staff had misled
them, lied to them or done anything else to hinder their
investigation. If
they have what disciplinary action was taken against the
individual(s) concerned by the council.

I refer to your recent request for information from this Authority. Our
answers to your questions are below.

I trust we have interpreted your request correctly, and this is the
information you required.

You have a right to make a complaint to us if you are not happy with any
aspect of the way we have handled your request for information. Please
contact me in writing with details of any complaint you wish to make. I
will then arrange for your complaint to be dealt with through our usual
internal complaints process. If you are then still unhappy you may
complain to the Information Commissioner who will decide whether the
request has been handled properly.

such matters to our attention in the last five years.

Interesting response from Hastings Borough Council (HBC) on the "LGO investigations" FOI request given that is exactly what I think HBC did in the case I referred to the LGO. Another question might be "has a member of the public complained to the LGO about your officers misleading them, lying to them or doing anything else to cover up mistakes and/or maladministration."
