Level of response to E-Petitions
Robyn Peel made this Freedom of Information request to Cabinet Office
The request was partially successful.
From: Robyn Peel
3 July 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
I note that the Number 10 website is also host to a popular
E-Petition site. This petition site has been running for a few
years now. In this time there has been 60,000 petitions.
Could you please provide me with the following information, under
the Freedom of Information Act, in relation to the E-Petitions site
on the Number 10 web site?
1. How many petitions have been submitted to the petition site
2. How many petitions have been allowed and not rejected
3. How many petitions have closed
4. Of the petitions that have closed, how many reached or passed
the minimum point of 500 signatures in order to obtain a response
5 .Of those petitions that did not get the 500 signatures:
a. how many received a response
b. what was the average time for a response to be provided
6. Of those petitions that did reach the 500 signatures,
a. how many received a response
b. what was the average time for a response to be provided
Since the Prime Minister himself does not answer most of the
petitions, it would also be useful for you to provide the following
information:
7. Which departments are more frequently asked to respond on behalf
of the Prime Minister to the E-Petitions
8. Whether anyone is responsible for ensuring that responses to the
petitions are followed up
9. What reasons are provided for petitions that are not responded
to
I will be happy with you limiting the time band from when the site
opened, until 1st July 2009.
I have studied various other responses on the E-Petitions, and it
would appear that recently your standard response has been “We do
not hold this information”. Since the petitions are held on a
computer database, I will not be happy with this level of response.
Your full cooperation in this matter is therefore desirable.
Yours faithfully,
Robyn Peel
