Legg Inquiry Letters

A Freedom of Information request to House of Commons by Nick Leaton

The request was rejected by House of Commons.

Nick Leaton

14 October 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Since the Legg Inquiry has now been finished and the letters sent
to MPs with the particular outcomes of that investigation, I would
like to see copies of all the letters sent to MPs.

The exemption set out in section 40(5)(b)(i)of the FOI ACT does not
apply since the inquiry conclusions have been sent to MPs.

Yours faithfully,

Nick Leaton

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of House of Commons's
handling of my FOI request 'Legg Inquiry Letters'.

The FOI has been denied on the grounds that the committee sub
contracted their work out to a third party. If this approach was
widely used for FOI requests it would basically subvert the whole
FOI act.

Anything that was embarrassing would be handled by subcontracting
the work out to a third party, and then be excluded. This is
clearly wrong.

The committee ordered the work, and the work was done on behalf of
the committee, and as such falls within the FOI act as the
committee is subject to the FOI act.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Nick Leaton
