Dear Sir or Madam,
Can you please inform me of the legal status of associations who
register under the Registration of Political Parties Act 1998. By
legal status I mean do they become incorporated companies.
Yours faithfully,
T. Morgan

Electoral Commission

Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for your email below which the Commission has designated as a
general query, rather than an FOI request. I apologise for the delay in
responding to you.
Firstly, the Registration of Political Parties Act 1998 has been
replaced by the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000
(PPERA). Parties who register with the Electoral Commission, under
PPERA, as registered political parties are not given a legal status just
by doing so. A political party may take any legal form that it wishes
and it is not for the Electoral Commission to comment or advise parties
on the legal status they may want to take.
I trust this answers your query.
Kind regards
Natalie Syers
