Neil Hood made this Freedom of Information request to Legal Services Commission
Legal Services Commission did not have the information requested.
From: Neil Hood
10 February 2010
Dear Legal Services Commission,
The chief executive of the Legal Services Commission, Carolyn Regan
has stated: "The LSC will not tolerate people trying to conceal
their financial assets in an attempt to have their defence costs
paid for by the taxpayer". This was said in reference to taking
possession of Abu Hamza's property in a bid to recover £300,000
given in Legal Aid money.
Under the Freedom of Information Act:
1. Does this mean that the Great British public can now start
looking forward to the LSC reclaiming the £1,342,465 of Legal Aid
money given to millionaire Ernest Saunders and to similarly rich,
blatant abusers of the Legal Aid system? Or will wealthy
individuals like these continue to enjoy protection from Legal Aid
repayments?
2. Is there a time limit to claiming back money given as Legal Aid?
Yours faithfully,
Neil Hood.
