Dear Sir
I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information held by the
Authority under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000:
I would be grateful for the following information to be released
under the Freedom of Information Act, in respect of LEA School
Governors.
1. How Many LEA Governors are currently serving on School
Governing Bodies?
2. Are they publically recorded for public inspection?
3. What is the political breakdown of LEA Governors with the city
of Birmingham?
4. How many people are currently listed to be appointed as LEA
Governors?
5. How many Governors and potential Governors for Birmingham
Schools are awaiting CRB Checks?
Please find herewith the following:
1. Currently 935
2 Not entirely sure what this question means and happy to revisit it if you
can provide clarification. If it means do we keep official records of the
appointments including and confirm them in writing to governing bodies then
the answer is yes.
3. 107 are Conservative party nominations, 226 are Labour Party
nominations, 51 are Liberal Democrat Party nominations and 551 are
non-political nominations.
4. Again clarification would be helpful. We have a number of volunteer
applicants waiting to be matched to schools and appointments pending but
again no current facility for reporting this.
5. Don't have this information as the CRB applications are managed between
the schools and the CRB team. Governors are volunteers – we only have
information on employees.
Whilst we have undertaken a thorough search of the information held by
Birmingham City Council, it may be that, due to the size and amount of
information held by Birmingham City Council, some information may have been
inadvertently missed.
If you have any information which may assist us in determining or locating
any missed information, we would be grateful if you would contact us with
details of this information, so that we can conduct a further search.
If you are not satisfied with the response you may ask for an internal
review. If subsequently you are not satisfied with the Council’s decision
you may apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally,
the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints
procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be
contacted at the following address:
