Dear Sir or Madam,
Please could you supply me with the following information regarding
the operation of the Lea Bridge Sluices at the junction of the Lee
Navigation and Old River Lea, London E5 :
Any technical documentation, such as diagrams, maps, manuals and
operating instructions, describing the control systems, parameters
and functioning of the sluices. This should include details of the
monitoring of depth and flow of the Lea Navigation and Old River
Lea, and how this data and any other factors determine the
operation of the sluices.
Please also supply copies of any communications or documents
relating to any modification in the operating parameters of the
sluices as a consequence of the construction of the Prescott
Channel Water Control Structure and associated river impounding.

Dear Mr Batsworth,
I am writing further to my acknowledgement of 9th July and your request
for information under the Freedom of Information Act. For your
information due to the nature of your request it has been handled in
accordance within the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
You have requested the following information regarding the operation of
the Lea Bridge Sluices at the junction of the Lee Navigation and Old River
Lea, London E5-
`Any technical documentation, such as diagrams, maps, manuals and

Following careful consideration, I regret to inform you that we have
decided not to disclose the detailed information that you have requested.
The information you requested is being withheld as it falls under the
exception in Regulation 12(5)(a) that its disclosure would adversely
affect international relations, defence, national security or public
safety.
I can though tell you in response to your request that the operation of
the River Lea sluices is unchanged following construction of the Three
Mills Lock and is in accordance with the land drainage consent issued by
the Environment Agency
Should you feel that I have not properly considered your request for

regard, you are entitled to have your complaint considered by our
