Dear Sajid Ali,

Thank you for your email of 17 May 2008 in which you have requested statistical information on the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP), Tier 1 and the work permit arrangements. Your request will be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I have spoken to our MI team to establish the exact information we are able to provide to you. I can confirm that we can provide you with the following information:

- a percentage of approved and refused cases for the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme and Work Permit arrangements for 2007.
*Please note, Tier 1 was introduced end of February 2008 and we do not have this information available as yet.
- an average figure only of processing times for each scheme for 2007.
- number of approved and refused cases by nationality.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with information on how many cases were sent for verification as this information is not readily available to us. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 we are not required to produce this information as it would take a member of staff more than 3.5 days, and thereby will take us over the £600 limit, to search through individual records for this kind of information.

Can you please clarify the information you wish to receive from the list above. Once you have clarified you request for information, we will respond to you within 20 working days of receipt.

Many thanks
