Dear Kirklees Borough Council,
I am writing with reference to your advertised apprenticeship
programs
(http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/employment/wo...)
both in Business Administration and Other Apprenticeship programs.
Please provide information as to number of young people who take
part in these apprenticeship programs per year since 2007, as well
as breakdowns as to which areas of the Council they are working in.
If possible, please provide any information about projected numbers
for 2011 as well.
Please can you also provide details about the costs of these
programs. What is the starting wage for an apprentice on one of
these programs? How much does the council spend overall on putting
young people through their apprenticeship's?
Yours faithfully,
G Bunton

Costs of apprenticeships programmes:
The training costs related to apprenticeships are funded by the Government
via the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).
The salary of an apprentice is paid by the Council; any employer who
recruits an apprentice is required to do this. The Council wage structure
for apprentices is in line with the national requirements which is
£95/week in the first year and then the National Minimum Wage for any
apprentice aged 19 and over.
The exception to this is our Advanced Apprenticeship programme in Business
Administration; apprentices on this programme are expected to undertake
work at a more advanced level. The wage levels for this programme starts
at £139/week.
I trust this meets with your requirements.
Yours sincerely
