Department for Children, Schools and Families
16 March 2010
Dear Mr Connely,
Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 3 March
2010. You requested a complete list of suppliers/contractors and
consultants that the Department for Children Schools and Families has used
over the past financial year when procuring IT hardware and the total
spend on IT hardware during the past financial year. You also requested
full details of the person(s) who conduct the IT purchasing within the
Department. I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 ("the Act").
Although the Department holds the information you have requested, it is
not held centrally. The Department estimates that the cost of complying
with your request would exceed the cost threshold applicable to central
Government. This is -L-600 and represents the estimated cost of one person
spending 3 1/2 working days locating, retrieving and extracting the
information.
However, to be helpful, with reference to previous similar requests for
information, I can tell you that the majority of the Department's internal
desktop PCs, laptops and servers are Dell computers; that some of the key
IT suppliers used for procuring internal IT are Dell, British Telecom
(BT), Hewlett Packard (HP), Computa Center, Fujitsu and DSG (Equanet); and
that a number of colleagues are responsible for procuring IT hardware
products used internally within the Department, many of whom report to
Tony Cottrell, the Deputy Director of Service Delivery Unit in the
Department's Chief Information Officer Group.
If you have any queries about this response, please contact me remembering
to quote the reference number in any future communications.
If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you should
make a complaint to the Department by writing to me within two calendar
months of the date of this letter. Your complaint will be considered by
an independent review panel, who were not involved in the original
consideration of your request.
If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint to the
Department, you may then contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
Yours sincerely,
Huw Evans
