tickets and fines issued for Council-ran car parks. Your request was
received on 24 April and I am dealing with it under the terms of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. I intend to deal with your request by 21
May 2009.

Your request will be subject to any exemption which the Council is
entitled to apply to refuse your request. Some of these are absolute
exemptions, and some only apply where the public interest in refusing to
supply the information outweighs that in disclosing the information.

Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Request for Information

Further to my email dated 5 May 2009, I am writing to confirm that the
Council has now completed its search for the information which you
requested on 24 April 2009 and I am pleased to include below the
information you have requested.

The total number of parking tickets (penalty charge notices) issued in
Maidstone Borough Council run Pay & Display car parks for the year May
2008 to May 2009 is 10,880. This figure is broken down as follows;

o Contravention code 83-Parked in a Car Park without displaying a valid
pay and display ticket-8450
o Contravention Code 81-Parked in a restricted area of a car park-61
o Contravention Code 24-Not parked correctly within the markings of a
bay or space-789
o Contravention Code 27-Parked in a disabled person's parking space
without displaying a valid disabled persons badge in the prescribed
manner-450
o Contravention Code 05 -Parked after the expiry of paid time-1130.
