Dear Mr Hansen

Re: Freedom of Information Request

I am writing in response to your email received 10 December 2008, in which
you requested information regarding Royal Mail and the Internet Watch
Foundation (IWF). This has now been considered in accordance with our duty
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and I have outlined our response
to your request below.

You requested the following information:
• “a yearly breakdown of the money you have given to this organisation”
• “details of what you are buying for this money”
• “a summary of your dealings with this organisation”

In relation to your first request, our Finance department has confirmed
that Royal Mail has paid £5000.00 plus VAT per year on subscription and has
done so since 2005.

Details of the benefits we receive as a member can be found on the IWF’s
website. Under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we are
not required to provide the information in response to a request if it is
already reasonably accessible to you. In this case the information is
accessible from the IWF website. I have enclosed a link to the relevant
section of the site for your reference.
http://www.iwf.org.uk/funding/page.7.htm.
It is worth noting that Royal Mail, one of an extensive number of
organisations belonging to the IWF, is a very large company with a large
workforce and we are, of course, supportive of initiatives to ensure proper
use of the internet.

Finally, in regards to a summary of dealings with the IWF, I can confirm
that Royal Mail representatives have met with representatives of the
foundation and receive various emails which either detail changes on
legislation or contain invites to attend discussion forums.

I hope that the enclosed information meets your requirements but if you
have any queries or further information needs in the future then please do
contact me. If you are dissatisfied with this response for any reason you
do have a right to request an internal review, in which case please write
to the Head of Information Compliance, Royal Mail House, Company
Secretary's Office, 5th Floor, 148 Old Street, LONDON, EC1V 9HQ. An
internal panel will then review the decision, and you will be advised of
the outcome.

If, having requested an internal review by Royal Mail, you are still not
satisfied with our response you also have a right of appeal to the
Information Commissioner at:

Information Commissioner's Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire
SK9 5AF
Telephone: 01625 545 700

Yours sincerely
